Kabaeshiwim Respite Women’s Shelter is committed to ending violence in our community through meaningful partnerships with individuals, programs, and services that share our vision of safety, healing, and empowerment.

Proudly serving the community since 1997, Kabaeshiwim has operated for over 20 years as a 24/7 safe haven for women and their children fleeing violence or at risk of abuse. The shelter is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is always staffed to ensure continuous support and safety.

Our shelter offers temporary residential services to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous women and children in need of safety and support. In addition to residential care, we provide walk-in supports and community outreach services to assist women who may not need shelter but still seek guidance, resources, or a listening ear. Whether it’s safety planning, advocacy, or connection to services, our door is open to any woman in need—no appointment necessary.

We provide a range of support services, including:

  • Basic transportation within the Bruce and Grey County areas
  • Safety planning and care coordination
  • Assistance with applications for employment, Ontario Works (OW), Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP), and housing
  • Support with legal aid access and appointments
  • Help with scheduling and attending medical visits, housing interviews, and CAS meetings
  • Advocacy and referrals to community and counseling services
  • 1:1 counselling service both in person and virtually.

Kabaeshiwim is here to walk alongside women and children on their journey to safety, stability, and healing.
