Bring Your Vision to Life at our Beach Entrances!
Dear Band Members,
The Beach Committee is thrilled to announce the launch of a community sign design contest for our four permanent beach entrances: Main, 6th Street, Silver Lake, and French Bay.
This project is entirely community-driven, and we want your voice, creativity, and cultural pride to shape what visitors and community members alike will see for generations to come.
Our goal is to have the permanent signs installed Summer 2026, so we’re asking the community to help shape what these signs will look like!
What We’re Looking For:We welcome Saugeen First Nation Band Members to submit a design or concept for signage at one or more of the beach entrances. Each submission must include:
• A visual design or detailed concept
• A written description explaining the meaning and inspiration behind your design
• An explanation of the medium you envision being used (e.g., wood, metal, painted mural, etc.)
• Consideration that the design will be large-scale, similar in size to the current temporary “Welcome to Saugeen Beach” sign at the Main Entrance of North Beach
• Incorporation of the words “Saugeen Beach” and “Chi-Gmiinh”o The people of our Nation call the Sauble Beach lake water “Chi-Gmiinh,” meaning “big” (Chi) and “depth of water” (Gmiinh).
We encourage you to think creatively while ensuring the design reflects Saugeen First Nation’s culture, values, and natural beauty.
Process & Timeline:
• Submission Deadline: December 18, 2025
• After the deadline, the Committee Chairs will present all designs blind (without names) to the full Beach Committee for initial review
• The Committee will select three finalists per entrance
• Finalist designs will then be presented back to the community for a vote — ensuring fairness, transparency, and community ownership of the final selection.
Let’s come together to create something that honours who we are and welcomes all who visit Saugeen.
Chi-Miigwetch,
SFN Beach Advisory Committee
