| Re: | Community Notice: Dog Safety and Control Measures |
Notice to Community
We have been made aware of a recent dog attack incident in the community. Video footage has been obtained, and we are fully cooperating with the Ontario Provincial Police and our Community Safety Officers. Where appropriate, charges will be pursued under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act.
In response to ongoing concerns regarding stray and dangerous dogs, we will be working in coordination with Animal Control to implement a series of unannounced Dog Trapping Events. These efforts are intended to promote the safety and wellbeing of our residents.
Animal Control officers will be conducting proactive patrols throughout the community and will undertake the humane and safe capture of dogs running at large. All dog owners are hereby notified to maintain proper care and control of their animals at all times. This includes ensuring that all dogs are leashed, chained, or otherwise secured on their property.
Please be advised:
- Dogs found at large and not under owner control may be captured.
- Owners will be responsible for any fees associated with retrieving their pets from Animal Control.
- Dogs not belonging to Saugeen First Nation residents will be assessed for rehoming, adoption, or other appropriate arrangements.
We strongly urge all community members to ensure their pets are securely tied, fenced, or otherwise prevented from wandering the community.
Thank you for your cooperation and attention to this important matter.
